Moscow, July 11 – AIF-Moscow.

The European Union is thinking of introducing restrictive measures against Turkey due to geological exploration off the coast of Cyprus, reports Reuters.

It is reported that the draft statement of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers says about the decision to suspend the negotiations on the Comprehensive Agreement on air transport and refuse for an indefinite period from further high-level meetings.

It is also noted that this document will be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on July 15 in Brussels.

In addition, the EU Council wants to propose a reduction in financial support for Turkey by 2020 and urge the European Investment Bank to reconsider its work regarding Ankara. If Turkey does not stop exploration, the EU is ready to impose tougher sanctions.

Earlier, Ankara sent the Fatih vessel to the Cyprus area and stated that the drilling will continue until September 3. On June 10, the Cyprus authorities sanctioned the arrest of the crew members of a Turkish vessel, but on July 4, Ankara sent another Yavuz vessel to Cyprus to work on the shelf. Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the country is ready to defend the rights of Turkish Cypriots in the shelf fields, including with the use of the army.
