Moscow, September 10 – AIF-Moscow.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said he does not trust US President Donald Trump in matters of trade negotiations between the countries, Kyodo writes citing government sources.
What can the trade war between the USA and China turn into?
According to the agency, Jinping made a statement during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the G20 summit in Osaka in June.
The Chinese leader continued to criticize Trump’s policies even after Abe’s attempts to convince him that the American leader trusts Jinping.
The President of China cited as an example the negative statements of the US President about China's support for state-owned companies, although Washington is allocating funds to support Boeing.
Recall that Beijing and Washington for several months continued negotiations on the settlement of trade disputes. The last round was held on July 31 in Shanghai.
Then Trump accused the Chinese authorities of delaying negotiations. The American leader associated this with the U.S. presidential election, which will be held in 2020. Trump promised that if he wins, his position on this issue will become tougher.
On September 1, new duties on goods from China with a total value of $ 110 billion per year entered into force in the United States. Measures also extended to clothing and electronics. The Chinese authorities retaliated from the same day by imposing import duties on US products, including soybeans, oil, and pharmaceuticals. The next day, September 2, Beijing filed a complaint against Washington’s actions with the World Trade Organization.
The new round of trade negotiations, the 13th in a row, is scheduled for early October. It is planned that it will be held in Washington.
