Moscow, August 22 – AiF-Moscow.
US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said China poses a more serious threat to the United States than Russia, TASS reports.
"Missed the rearmament." Why does the Pentagon need “allowance for the war with Russia”?
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Pentagon during his television interview.
Esper noted that in the long run, China, given its economic strength and political weight, poses a greater threat to the US than Russia.
The head of the US military also called China “a long-term strategic adversary,” which is currently the Pentagon’s top priority.
During a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier this month, Esper also stated that Beijing’s military activity and its "predatory economic policies" pose a threat to international law, which the United States is trying to defend.
After the termination of the INF Treaty, the head of the Pentagon also called for the early deployment of new US missiles in Asia.
