It is expected that a decision on this issue will be made in the near future. So far, there have been no official comments from the White House or Bigan himself.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that another possible candidate for the post is Richard Grenell, Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. However, sources close to Grenell said that the diplomat was not interested in this position and moving to Russia.

Stephen Bigan speaks Russian, he previously worked for Ford Motor and was responsible for cooperation with authorities of other states.

Now the post of US ambassador to the Russian Federation is occupied by John Huntsman. He recently filed a resignation letter with President Trump. He is expected to leave the post on October 3.

Note that on July 31, the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, discussed by telephone the appointment of a new American ambassador to Russia.
