Of course, I believe in dentistry to a greater extent. But all the procedures are different. Each of us has his own testimonies, aesthetic preferences, opportunities and requirements for a specialist. And there are no unified rules – what can and can not be done. I cite 7 things that I did not would not have agreed to in the chair of my colleague. So, I’ll never agree to ….

Of course, if you need to put a temporary seal, then any doctor with a diploma of a dentist will cope. But if it is a more complex procedure, then I address only a narrow specialist. So, in the case of treatment of canals, I will go to the endodontist. But if I see that in particular doctor endodontics is not the main, but only an additional specialization, then I will also refuse its services. Because I know how difficult this work is, and in order to do it, qualitatively, good practice is needed. Before you entrust your doctor with any complicated procedure.

As a professional implantologist, I would never agree to install the newest implant model. First, it is not yet well tested. Secondly, it may turn out that the spare parts for the newly emerged implant just do not have time to certify and bring to Russia. And it turns out that the implant itself was delivered, but there is no tooth. The same applies to rare materials. There are manufacturers that occupy only 1% of the Russian market. Since the certification and re-certification in Russia is expensive, it often becomes unprofitable for such companies. Therefore, it may happen that the parts can not be found after the need for re-prosthesis. Therefore, before implantation, ask the doctor the name of the model that he plans to install.

There are a number of procedures that are purely aesthetic. And here not the doctor determines their necessity, but the patient himself. The concept of beauty is very subjective. It’s a matter of taste. For example, my teeth are not only white, and on the enamel there are microcracks, which in principle are not noticeable. Someone in my case would like to fix this: put the veneers, change the shape, make a snow-white smile that would be delighted by the people around. But I personally do not aspire to impress my teeth, but I view them first of all from a functional point of view. And I regard any such procedure as a potential risk. Alas, there are no procedures without risk. True, it is important to consider that the same veneers are in some cases really necessary. For example, when the tooth consists of a solid seal. Therefore, when you are offered something, you need to clearly understand for yourself – is there any medical evidence for this?

It’s about the most popular powder cleaning of teeth. It has its advantages – it’s fast and inexpensive. But there is a huge minus – microparticles damage the enamel. Therefore, I choose manual professional cleaning. Yes, it takes more time – somewhere in 2-2.5 times. This is a very laborious process. And the time of such a specialist, of course, is more expensive. Unfortunately, this position can not be conveyed to the patient. He will not understand why such a "simple" service can cost 6,000 rubles. He sees the advertisement "Cleaning his teeth for 999 rubles" and thinks: "What’s wrong with that? Just brush your teeth. "

Dentistry, and medicine in general, should not follow marketing. When I see an advertisement "do for an hour" or "implantation for one visit", then for me the red light immediately illuminates. You can not even try to fit medicine to some extent. This is not an area where you need to reach a record result at any cost. It is necessary to build on the evidence and circumstances. Whichever dental procedure I was given, I do not need any promises and slogans from a doctor. It is important for me to come to knowingly good result. Let the path to it be longer.

The physician should be provided from a logistical point of view. Yes, a professional can work with any tools, but with good ones it will turn out better and faster. Of course, the patient is difficult to assess. But there are two points that can be traced and without a professional look: the presence of additional light and magnification. There are such stages of dental treatment, when the light on the hanging lamp is not enough. There must be a minimum of enlargement (a microscope or at least binoculars).

With all the dentists who help me, I have known personally for a long time. As a rule, we cooperate with them. Therefore, it is easy for me to evaluate them as specialists. But I pay attention also to human qualities. I would not be able to entrust my teeth to a dentist. Or someone who is not personally acquainted. Attitude to work is no less important than professionalism. Therefore, before you trust a new a specialist with some complicated and expensive procedure. Meet him and decide for yourself how you personally feel comfortable in his chair.
