Festival of Children’s and Youth Orchestras “Mariinsky NEXT”
Mariinsky Theater opens Sunday festival of children’s and youth orchestras “Mariinsky NEXT”, in which the best youth groups of the city will take part.
This is the first of two spring holidays, where the performers are children, TASS was told in the press service of the theater.
“From 29 April to 20 May in the foyer of the Stravinsky New Stage of the Mariinsky Theater for the fourth time there will be a festival of children’s and youthful orchestras” Mariinsky NEXT “, held at the initiative of Valery Gergiev. This year, among the participants – nine music groups from St. Petersburg, “

The musical marathon will open with a day concert of the youth chamber orchestra “Vasilievsky Island” of the Children’s Music School No. 11.
Among the other participants of the festival are the chamber orchestras of the Yevgeny Mravinsky Children’s Art School, the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Musical College, the Modest Moussorgsky College, the Young Symphony Orchestra of the Children’s Music School No. 4 and the Resonance of the Mikhail Glinka Children’s School of Arts, and others.
Support of young talents is one of the priorities of the Mariinsky Theater.
This task, noted in the press service, is dedicated to another spring holiday – the Second Festival of Children’s Music Theater Studios “Mariinsky for Children: Children in the Mariinsky”. It will be held from 2 to 8 May 2018.
The basis of the program this year will be the musicals of contemporary Russian composers performed by young artists of five collectives of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
The holiday will be opened with a symphonic fairy tale by Francis Poulenc “The story of Babar’s Baby elephant” directed by Alla Chepinohi. Twice at the festival will perform a children’s musical theater “Suitcase of Miracles”: young artists will show the “How to think up a fairy tale” performance and the play “Pippi Long Stocking”. The musical “Dwarf Nose” by Tatyana Burtseva will be presented by the collective from Sosnovy Bor – the children’s musical theater “Blue Bird”.
The final performance of the festival program in the chamber halls will be an opera-musical by Sergei Pleshak “The Little Prince”. The soloists of the Glinka Choir School dedicate this production to the 75th anniversary of the first edition of the fairy tale by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
