At first glance, an unprepared viewer, this interior may seem too ascetic and devoid of the home comfort of a country mansion, but that was his concept
One of the most picturesque places in the north of Italy – Lake Como – has long been chosen by the world’s creative and business beau monde. To spend a weekend in local luxury hotels is revered for the joy of the richest and famous, and to have your own villa on Lake Como – and at all the lot of the elite, among which, for example, the favorite of women is the Hollywood star George Clooney. It is worth saying that the happiness to have a house on Lake Como falls on the share and less famous people, in particular, the Italian family, whose head owns its own business. It was by their order that the Italian bureau Arkham Project undertook to remodel the villa, built in the 1970s.
The choice of furniture was dictated by the same aspirations – simply, functionally and only as necessary
The two-level mansion is located more than successfully – at the very edge of the shore, opening picturesque panoramas to the lake, so the conclusion of the architects was unambiguous: the first level of the house should have a surrounding panoramic glazing. The design of the facades is as simple as possible: the lower floor, as already mentioned above, is a glazed space around the perimeter, and the second floor has been decided to leave in the most pristine state. But the interior decoration has undergone much more changes to the tastes and needs of its new owners. A significant redevelopment of the space was made, and the perimeter of the first floor was enlarged by a glass veranda. The interior design is distinguished by the maximum asceticism, neutral colors used in the decoration of walls and ceilings, no complex textures and solutions – laconic monophonic gloss, natural wood and tiles.
The choice of furniture was dictated by the same aspirations – simply, functionally and only as necessary. The house does not even have curtains. At first glance, the unprepared viewer, this interior may seem too ascetic and devoid of the home comfort of the country house, but that was his original concept, which implied the maximum emphasis on the magnificent landscapes of Lake Como. The house for its owners is just an auxiliary means by which they can freely enjoy them at any time of the day and from any of its points.
