Acrylic furniture with bizarre rust patterns

Japanese artist Yuma Kano decided to rehabilitate the image of rust in modern production and created an aesthetic collection of panels for furniture, shifting intricate patterns from rusty metal plates to acrylic resin.

Rust is a familiar concept and always associated with problems and poor quality of materials. Because of the rust, planes fell, ships sank and bridges collapsed. However, despite its negative image, the Japanese artist Yuma Kano was able to see the beauty in it and created an unusual collection of furniture Rust Harvest, putting rusty patterns on acrylic resin.

"Despite the fact that rust usually appears in the role of the devil, if you look closely at her, you will see a lot of stunningly beautiful patterns and complex colors. Noticing this, we believed that all of these patterns can be imposed on new textures and products. Through trial and error, we were able to develop a technique that allowed us to transfer rust from metal plates to acrylic resin, "- says the artist.

On metal plates, which the artist and his team deliberately left in the rain, buried in the ground, watered with sea water, and left in the sun, rust formed. After that, the artist filled the metal parts with acrylic resin, after which the patterns and the flow of natural rust were transferred after hardening.

"The way light is refracted through the thickness of the resin, gives rust a mysterious appearance, as if you are looking at the soil of a distant planet," – says the artist. From the resulting glossy panels with different textures, shades and patterns, you can collect different pieces of furniture: a table, a cabinet, shelves, bedside tables and much more.

"The contrast of natural and artificial materials creates amazing sculptural works of furniture," says Yuma.
