Players left in special T-shirts for warm-up before the match of the 35th round of Premier League with Swansea (5: 0). Soon, a limited lot will go on sale.

Diagonally on a white T-shirt there are two stripes – blue and burgundy, which symbolize the colors of the two main sets in the winning season.

Over the emblem of “Manchester City” is a badge – the champions-2017/18. Across the chest is an inscription – CITYZENS (distorted “citizens”, from English citizens).

On the reverse side of the T-shirts are the names of all the players of the first line-up of Man City.

The main church holidays, the days of memory of saints and Orthodox shrines of today

April 24 (11 April to "the old style" – the church Julian calendar). Tuesday the 3rd (the Myrrh-Bearers) on Easter Sunday (the second week after the Bright Resurrection of Christ). There is no post. Today commemorates nine well-known Christian saints. We will briefly describe them.

The PriestMartyr Antipas, Bishop of Pergamum of Asia. One of the first archpastors of the Church of Christ, who lived in I (apostolic) century. A disciple of the Apostle John the Theologian, St. Antipas performed his holy service and received a martyr’s crown at the time of anti-Christian persecution of the infamous emperor-pagan Nero, who reigned in the Roman Empire in 54-68 years from the Nativity of Christ. The saint is mentioned by his teacher in the Apocalypse – Revelation of John the Theologian:

And write to the Angel of the Church of Pergamon: this is what the sword has on both sides: I know your works, and that you live where the throne of Satan is, and that you keep My Name, and did not deny My faith even in the days that you have , where Satan dwells, the faithful witness of My Antipas".

From the Life of St. Antipas, the circumstances of his courageous demise are known, after the Gentiles became aware that it was he who persuaded many people not to sacrifice to idols. Here, as described in the hagiographic texts:

The pagan priests reproached the bishop for turning the people away from worshiping the native gods, and demanding that they stop preaching about Christ and sacrificing idols. Saint Antipas calmly replied that he would not serve the demon gods who fled from him, the mortal man, that he worships and will worship the Lord Almighty, who created everything, and His Only Begotten and Consubstantial Son and Holy Spirit. The priests objected that their gods existed long ago, and Christ appeared recently and was crucified under Pilate as a villain. The saint replied that the pagan gods were created by the hands of people, and all the legends about them are full of lawlessness and vices …"

After this, Saint Antipas was thrown into the red-hot brass ox, intended for sacrifice to idols, right in the temple of Artemis. But instead of terrible tortures the saint quietly prayed and went to the Lord, as if he had fallen asleep. This happened about 68 years old from the Nativity of Christ.

Martyrs of Procession and Martinian Roman. As well as Holy Martyr Antipas of Pergamon, These holy sufferers took martyrdom under the emperor Nero (in 67th year from the Nativity of Christ). Both were guards in the prison, where he was held the first-ever apostle Peter, from which they accepted the Christian faith and Holy Baptism.

The Monk Farmumius of Egypt. About this holy IV centuries we know little, including the fact that he performed monastic spiritual deeds in the same desert, where he fought in a student (well) the Monk John the Hermit, who helped him, feeding him, Saint Pharmufy.

The Monk John of Thessalonica (Thessalonica). St IX centuries, apprentice the Monk Gregory Decapolitus. Like the teacher, he zealously defended Holy Orthodoxy from the attacks of heretical iconoclasts.

The Monks Jacob Zheleznoborovsky (1442) and Jacob Bryleevsky, his companion (XV). Russian Saints XV centuries, spiritually ascending to the Monk Sergei of Radonezh and his great monastic traditions. They performed spiritual feats in the Kostroma Galich land.

Sainted Varsonofy, Bishop of Tver, Kazan Wonderworker. Russian saint XVI centuries, companion St Gurius of Kazan, known enlightener, in 1567 from the Nativity of Christ ordained to the bishop of Tver. Nine years later, St. Varsonofy departed to the Lord in the Kazan Monastery of the Transfiguration he founded.

The PriestMartyr Nikolai Gavrin, the presbyter. The Orthodox clergyman suffered for his faithfulness to Christ in the period of Soviet Godless persecution. Took the martyr’s crown at the time of the so-called "Great Terror" in the bloody 1938. Glorified in the face of saints in the many thousands of new martyrs and confessors of the Russian Church.

Congratulations to Orthodox Christians with the memory of all today’s saints! By their prayers, Lord, save and have mercy on us all! Those who, in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism or monastic vows were given names in their honor, are happy to congratulate them on the name day! As they said in old times: "Angels to the Guardians are a crown of wickedness, and to you – good health!" Our same deceased relatives and friends – an eternal memory!

Christ is Risen!

An important role in the formation of Arkhipov as an artist was played by V.D. Polenov and V.G. Perov. Perov taught the beginning artist not to be afraid to portray the truth in all its manifestations. Polenov also gave Arkhipov his ability to cheerfully, lightly portray life.

During the training, Arkhipov was not content with only academic studies, he paid much attention to independent work. Every year in the summer, the artist wrote sketches in his native Ryazan province. These works captured various scenes from the life of the peasants. Such early works include “In the shop of the junkman”, “Drunkard”, “Vodopoy”.

The real success was the picture “Visiting the sick.” For this canvas, Arkhipov was awarded the title of a class artist and a great silver medal.

Subsequently, the artist writes mostly in the social genre. Active action and acute situations are alien to Arkhipov’s canvases. The main meaning is the image of the situation. An expression of the main features of the creative style of Arkhipov was the picture of the “Washerwoman”, written in two versions.

Abram Efimovich Arkhipov began work on the picture in the late 1890s, continuing the theme of female labor that was emerging in his work. In kind for him served as laundry workers near the Smolensk market in Moscow, but they posed in the corner of the artist’s studio, “close to the coverage of what he saw in the basement.”

So there was the first version of the picture of the late 1890s, belonging to the timing (the second version was created in 1901, the State Tretyakov Gallery). It is written with great skill, in a broad and picturesque manner and well conveys a dark and moisture-saturated laundry room in which they work until the woman’s strength is completely exhausted. The theme of exhausting labor is expressed mainly in the figure of an elderly woman at the laundry trough depicted in the foreground. A group of washerwomen in the depth of the picture, at the window, forms an independent whole (even composing itself in a circle). The artist perfectly passes their tired, but still fast movements, emphasizing the dynamics of this whole group with spectacular reflexes of light on wet figures from water.

In the picture, the social motif is intertwined with picturesque searches. The plot itself gave an occasion for the implementation of a new artistic manner, in which there appears a desire for a generalized form, for liberation from detailing in the depiction of objects and figures, for free and broad writing

Since 1894, Arkhipov teaches in the field class of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1904 he took part in the formation of the Union of Russian Artists. In the 1900s a series of northern landscapes appeared, striking with skill images of huts, forests, and the sea. The main feature of the paintings of this cycle is an unusually rich color.

PhotoDepartament participates in the Groan Zin fest 2, which will be held in Moscow on April 27, 28 and 29, at two galleries of the Ground.

GROUND zin fest – a large-scale event dedicated to small publishing projects and music labels. Within the framework of the festival, young artists, photographers, designers, writers and musicians will once again show all the trends of modern ideas embodied in the zines, magazines, books of the artist, and other experimental forms.

PhotoDepartament is engaged in projects that help to look, understand, explore and make a modern photo in the field of art and media. It is interesting for us to consider photography not only as an image, but also as a bearer of meanings about the world today and in the future.

We make printed, exhibition and online projects, the purpose of which is to find out how the image can tell us more than it shows. On GROUND zin fest we will show our last project – collection “Amplitude # 1”, who was in the finals of the book competition Aperture PhotoBook Award. And also bring self-publish books and prints of leading Russian photographers and artists – Yulia Borissova, Irina Popova, Yuri Gudkov, Irina Zadorozhnaya, Yana Romanova, Alexander Verevkin, Max Sher, Julia Spiridonova and others.

We believe that the image is also an occasion for conversation, which helps to make the process of their creation conscious.

April 28, Saturday, from 1 pm to 2 pm artists Alexander Verevkin, Yuri Gudkov and Yevgeny Molodtsov, and curator Nadia Sheremetova will give a discussion on the topic “When does the book make sense?”, where they will weigh all the pros and cons of a photobook from the point of view of the buyer of photobooks, and what is important is the artist who is already publishing and still planning to publish his own author’s book.

And on April 29 the team from the PhotoDepartment will take part in the discussion “The book of the artist in the digital age”, which is organized by the festival.

No longer photographer: Pulitzer Prize winner for 8 months already left the profession

Last week, American Ryan Kelly won the Pulitzer Prize in the category “News Photo”, a bit earlier – a prize winner of the prestigious photojournalism contest World Press Photo. In both cases, a shot was taken to him from a photograph taken last August during protests in Charlottesville, Virginia: then a car entered the crowd of demonstrators at high speed.

Kelly’s special victory is made by the fact that for about 8 months he has not been working as a photographer. The daily press photographer of the newspaper The Daily Progress, he replaced with the duties of social networking manager in one of the breweries in the city of Richmond.

No longer photographer: Pulitzer Prize winner for 8 months already left the professionCredit: Ryan Kelly

As he writes Newsweek, photo, which brought Kelly several prestigious awards, he did on his last day in The Daily Progress: at that time, Ryan had already written a letter of resignation and was preparing to change his profession. “Little money, lots of work, huge stress,” explains the reasons for his departure from Kelly’s photo.

He notes: “My story is the same as the stories of many others: for all my love for journalism and the newspaper where I worked, in four years I just faded. Low wages, work at night and weekends – all this influenced my decision. I did not even see my wife very often. So we had to start looking for some opportunities in another sphere. “

“This is a crisis. If you look at who worked for The Daily Progress last summer and who works now, you will understand: almost half of journalists and editors resigned. Yes, some still stayed in the profession, but others left journalism, “says the Pulitzer Prize winner. “I have no idea how to change this, given the financial situation.” I’m scared to think about it. “

Kelly added that from time to time he still continues to shoot as a freelancer. However, he does not intend to return to work as a photojournalist.
